Each month, Ellaways holds a jam for anyone interested in making live music. They are held on the first Wednesday on alternate months. Here is a chance to get ourselves organized for upcoming jams with songs and players.. Alan Tompkins- what a great idea :)

Hi all, As you will see by my profile I'm 3 score old and have been playing for a few years now, all by ear cant read the dots. you will also notice that I'm a kiwi & have adopted brisbane as a home. I've been here for 5 years now and all that i have really done is join two country music clubs. That was O K for a while but as with the CC's in NZ they get very messy with no future unless you want to go to awards. I LIKE FUN. I also like to play with dedicated people. My leanings are to 60's 70's 80's early Beatles, Elvis, the Big O Johnny Cash. and other big balladiers oh, even Cliff Richard. I play rhythym guitar Ovation or Fender Tele. Oh and I sing. I've tried all the new fangled things like MiDi but it cant compete with playing live and adlibbing at times as I;m human and can make mistakes. I live in Redbank Plains and have my own transport. Willing Able & Ready.

Thanks for letting me ramble. Gary

Hi Gary,

Forgive me if you've already done this but have you been along to any of the jams at Ellaways? They're an easy way of meeting up with other players. The Underwood store would only be a skip down the motorway from your place. Free-for-all jams are held there on the first Thursday of the month and I can guarantee you at least one Country music afficionado will be there in the form of our dear Moderator, Bob.

I'm usually there most months as well and, if you want to play some old rock n roll I'd be happy to get up with you. So would plenty of others.

Another way of meeting players with similar influences is to go through a round of the Weekend Warriors Program. Check the Ellaways website for details. Then there's one of the theme nights held throughout the year. Rehearsals are currently under way for a Blues Theme concert to be held at Underwood on Sat 19/4. There's going to be 8 bands playing so, if you're not doing anything, come along and have a look. I'm coaching 2 of the bands for it and, if they're any guide, it's going to be a cracker.

All the best in your search for a band.

Geoff.

Yeah thanks Geof I have already been contacted about the Urban country do at Caboolture. I'm not a great lover of country as such, the "somebody stole my horse truck or girl doesn't do to much for me , I really like something with a beat or swing & drive. I will be at Underwood at the may jam. Cheers for now Gary

Hiya Gary & welcome aboard ! Yep Geoffs spot on about things to get involved in, as far as all types of genres of music at Ellaways including Weekend Warriors,Themes or jam nites also the added bonus of making friends with similar tastes, musically to yours.

I found out about the W/Warriors programme last year through a good friend of mine & we both ended up in a Band in round 24 "Change 4-5" & since then have done the U.K. theme as well, and quite frequently are seen the Jam nites. Also I will be in one of the Blues Bands playing on the 19th April too!

So really , I can only describe it as a real blast to do, so get involved &
just have lots & lots of fun doing it. And again.... Welcome Aboard...

Jams, Warrior Rounds + Theme Nights

Postby Saxual Healing on Wed Apr 09, 2008 8:08 pm

Hi Gary & Marty

I can personally endorse Geoff's comments about the upcoming Tribute Night which is dedicated to Da Blues...Man.

This will be a real rip snorter with some surprises as bands become even more theatrical and introduce new concepts that will genuinely entertain.

The last warrior round proved that the coaches are starting to have an impact on the bands with crisp starts & finishes, continuity and a 'Show" worth watching and listening to.

Sort out the Sound System with it's perennial problems and we'll have this licked, once and for all time.

Gary, it sounds like you're into "Country Rock" with some Rock n' Roll overtones and there is certainly more scope for that than my passion which is Soul/Funk/ R & B....but I won't give up, never !!

As Marty says...get involved and put this on your bucket list or you'll die miserable.

Good Luck, do what you feel and keep both feet on the wheel.

These jam nights sound like great fun :-D

Glad to hear there are some kindred spirits who don't think country is daggy!

Will be sure to get to some, even if it's just to watch. I love live music.

Cheers
Dave
