Which songs to learn?

Postby Noodler on Sun Jan 25, 2009 11:02 pm

I was wondering if there is a list of songs that are recommended to learn for jam nights and WW. I'm sure I saw a list somewhere once that contained Alright Now by Free and other classics. But I can't find it now.

Could someone please email it to me at davidarltette@gmail.com if it exists?

Thanks
Dave

Hi Noodler,

Hope someone sent you that list. I've got a copy of it somewhere - but who knows which pile that might be hidden in?

The jam nights are pretty casual. There are books and books of songs from a variety of styles there for you to look through. There's the old favourites from Creedence, Van Morrison, old rock n roll, blues and some modern stuff. It's meant to be a fun night and most of the stuff is easily do-able so you won't need to learn Bohemian Rhapsody or anything. Although Bob's always wanted to play that one so I'm sure he'd get up with you if you did. Anything of your own you want to do, just bring along 4 copies of the Chart.

The first 2009 jam is this Thursday 5/2 at 6:30. Should be great.

All the Best

Thanks Lodger :D

I actually found a list of songs on Ellaways site last night that had the kinds of songs you mention. Some of them I know really well, some I know bits of and one or two I'd never heard of (Steal Your Kisses?) . I've downloaded some charts/ tabs anyway.

I've got to attend a Prep (school) BBQ this Thurs evening with my Son, but if I can whiz down there after I'll put my head in and have a listen. If I can't make this one, when is the next jam night? Is it a set thing, like first Thurs of the month?

Don't know about Bohemian Rhapsody...maybe We Will Rock You or Another One Bites the Dust? :D

Seeya soon
Dave

Yeah the first Thursday of the month is an open jam. The second Thursday is Acoustic night (acoustic instruments only - PA provided) and the third Thursday is for established bands to come along and do a half-hour set to try out new material or just get known. I don't know what's on the last Thursday though. I've been to all of them and they're pretty good nights out - especially as the cost is $0. If you can make it this Thursday, drop in by all means. The more the merrier. As well this Saturday the icebreaker jam for people wanting to go into the next Weekend Warriors concert will be on. It's all "go" down there at the moment.

Lodger,

You are a star. Thanks a lot. Will make it to a few of them. See you there.
