Theme Concert 1/8/2009 - Women Rock

Postby Alan T on Mon Jun 15, 2009 11:13 pm

First, a quote from the Ellaways website:

"The final theme show will be called ‘Women Rock’ and dedicated to Women in Rock. We would like to get as many women as possible into bands and fronting the bands with suggestions such as- Aretha Franklin; Tina Turner ; Janis Joplin; Bonnie Raitt ; Joni Mitchell; Billie Holiday; Chrissie Hynde; Madonna; Annie Lennox; Carole King; Patsy Cline; Debbie Harry; Ella Fitzgerald; The Supremes; Gladys Knight; Linda Ronstadt; Emmylou Harris; Dusty Springfield; Joan Baez; Joan Jett; k.d. lang; Dolly Parton; Pat Benatar; and Cher."

The only thing is the date has been changed to August 1st for the show itself.

The above list is not exhaustive; you may wish to pay tribite to someone else. Essentially you just need to be a she who wants to sing. The rest is simple... There will be a band for everyone who gets selected to perform (and there can only be a relatively small number as you would be doing about 20 minutes each).

Please think about it and if you are unsure talk to Bob at Ellaways or one of the coaches (like me, you can message me from here or at alant617@gmail.com).

And if you know anyone who should be putting their hand up and isn't - tell them to call. This is a real chance to perform stuff you like with a band to support you. It does not get much better than this.

Go for it!

Cheers

Hi Big Al,

Certainly this Theme Show has been a challenge. I've had to bump the performance date back to the 15th of August which is in the middle of the National Weekend Warriors Convention down at the Gold Coast. I started with 9 bands but it quickly dropped to 7 and now to 5. It will still be a ripper show but it has been a real learning curve for moi. We have a second meeting today, this time with the bands and upon checking my work email discovered that a drummer has pulled out of one band. Sob...

Hey Big Al & Uncle Bob

Your healer has high expectations of being thoroughly entertained and is really looking forward to this one.

Visions of Cher in 'That" outfit straddling the giant cannon of a destroyer and surrounded by US Navy Sailors on R & R. This should be a show to raise the blood pressure of any warrior and enough to distract them from any alternative functions including a national conference which may or may not suit their wallets or purses in any case, given the current state of the real economy.

Let's face it, the montage' of entertainment that Uncle Bob usually assembles is always worth just a few $$ at the door and a chance to indulge in something that's local and showcased by a retailer that really get's involved with it's customers and actually does something constructive to assist.

Let's all dose ourselves up on hot lemon drinks, stay warm and avoid thev flu.....but don't miss this show !

Uncle Bob's final effort this year will be CABARET.

That's right ladies.....ever imagined yourself as Liza Minnelli performing to an audienvce of SS Officers, pimps and that avant'garde lowlife of 1930's burlesque?

The plan is to have table service frrom scantily clad french maids and guys with rippling six packs.

Stay Tuned
Stay Loud & Proud
